What to see in Skarsvåg
The North Cape (in Norwegian, Nordkaplatået) is a promontory located on the island of Magerøya, in northern Norway, in the Nordkapp community. Its cliff, 307 m high, is frequently considered the northernmost point in Europe. However, neighboring Knivskjellodden is about 1500 meters further north. In addition, both points are on an island, which means that the northernmost point in continental Europe is, in reality, Cape Nordkinn.
According to the International Hydrographic Organization, the North Cape is the limit between the Norway Sea, to the west, and the White Sea, to the east, therefore also one of the limits used to separate the Atlantic Ocean from the Arctic Ocean.
The name of Cabo Norte was coined by the British explorer Richard Chancellor in 1553, when he exceeded the end in the search for the northeast. Since then, it receives frequent visits from explorers who go up to plain climbing the cliff; Famous visitors were King Oscar II of Sweden in 1873 and King Chulalongkorn in Thailand in 1907. Today, Cabo Norte is an important tourist attraction that includes a wide tourist center, which houses a large number of exhibitions on the history of the place .
In 1943, the Battle of Cabo Norte developed in front of this end in the Arctic Ocean.
